Burberry Lip Velvet Crush · Sheer-matte stain
To create Lip Velvet Crush, I was looking for a natural follow up to Burberry's Lip Velvet Lipstick. Burberry's make-up philosophy was built around effortlessness and the fresh glow coming after a walk in the English countryside. I thought we needed a matte lipstick that wouldn't require precision, that would reproduce the effect of effortlessly dabbing some pigment on the lips with the fingertips. We needed that fresh look, like a flower petal in the sun, quite different from classic matte lipsticks, so we worked with the lab to get a silky powdery texture with the perfect amount of sheerness, for a bitten lip effect.

Burberry February 2017 "Runway Edit" make-up collection
One of the key patterns that seemed to emerge from the show samples was the overlaying of lace on Breton stripes, which is what I reproduced on the box of the limited edition nail set. To look as close to the real fabrics as possible, the lace pattern was embossed on the carton, mimicking the layering effect. The colours of the show were absolutely fresh cool tones. The celadon blue was quite specific as it almost had hints of purple, which required over 30 trials to get right as a nail polish.
